Chocolope Growing Information
Chocolope was bred by DNA Genetics, which combined Cannalope Haze Sativa and Chocolate Thai Sativa. This combination was an intentional homage to the Chocolate strains that were incredibly popular in the 1980s.
This strain is also known as the D-Line, although that name is less common. Over the years, Chocolope has earned numerous honors, including being the Strain of the Year in 2007 and earning a spot on the High Times Magazine cover and winning the High Life Cup and the Cannabis Cup. Other honors include first place in the Hydro Highlife Cup 2008, Outdoor Spannabis 2011, and Sativa HT Cannabis Cup 2010.
Plant Size – Tall
Chocolope seeds grow to be up to 1.5 meters tall, or even higher if growers provide the right conditions. This leads to high yields, but it also makes the plant harder to control and makes it a bit more challenging to grow inside. Indoor growers can use methods like Low-Stress Training to prune and bend the stems, making the tall plant more appropriate for limited spaces. Taking care of that pruning early on in the strain’s vegetative stage can do wonders for limiting the height of the plant.
Those who grow Chocolope seeds will find themselves with a tall plant that delivers a high yield and earthy flavors combined with aromas of chocolate and coffee.
Difficulty – Easy
Growers agree that it is easy to cultivate Chocolope, making this a strain that anyone can try their hand at growing. The only thing to watch out for is ventilation. The strain is prone to developing mold and mildew if it is not in a space with enough ventilation.
Although Chocolope reviews classify growing the strain as easy, that does not mean there will be no challenges. It has a longer cultivation time than some plants, and the concerns of mold and mildew cannot be understated. Beginners should almost always stick to indoor growing to avoid these issues. When grown outside, Chocolope requires experience fighting those problems.
Flowering Time – 10 to 12 Weeks
Chocolope reviews agree that it flowers in 9-12 weeks when grown indoors. This long growing period requires patience in those who choose to plant Chocolope seeds. When growing outdoors, flowering will happen around the middle or end of October.
Yield – Indoor & Outdoor
As with most strains, growers get a better yield from Chocolope when growing it outside, assuming the growing conditions are optimal, which is a Mediterranean climate. Anyone growing the plant outside should be extra careful to ensure the area is sunny, warm, and balmy and that there is no mildew or mold. Growers who opt for outdoor cultivation will need to ensure that there is no frost. Most experts suggest sticking to indoor growing to avoid frost altogether, especially in the case of beginners. Growers who are determined to cultivate their Chocolope seeds outside should ensure it has proper humidity levels.
Growing Chocolope inside provides the benefit of complete control of relative humidity and temperature, making it much easier to grow. Regardless of where the strain is produced, it needs plenty of nutrients.
- Indoor: 540 Grams per Square Meter
- Outdoor: 600 to 700 Grams per Plant
As mentioned, Chocolope is the result of DNA Genetics breeding Chocolate Thai Sativa, which is a rare landrace, and Cannalope Haze Sativa. It was supposed to honor Chocolate strains of the 1980s, which many feel it does well.
Chocolope Is Recommended For
- User Recommendation Info: Experienced Users – Chocolope is powerful thanks to its nearly full sativa genetics. As such, it is best left to experienced users. Beginners may consume too much and experience mild anxiety.
- Time Recommended Info: Morning – Many users love to start their day with Chocolope, saying it works as well as strong coffee, if not better. Consuming it in the morning lets users take advantage of the strain’s energizing effects, motivation, and creativity. Those who use Chocolope in the morning should remember that the high only lasts about three hours. Still, there is not usually a decrease in motivation or energy as it fades, and there is no harm in taking another puff once the effects wear off.
