Growing & Review
Candy Kush, also spelled Kandy Kush, is an award-winning strain from two Californian super-strains, Trainwreck and OG Kush. This hybrid strain is perfect for enjoying at night, helping remove stress and provide relaxation.
In addition to its delicious flavors and aromas and legendary parentage, the Candy Kush strain has high yields and a gorgeous appearance. Continuing the trend set by its parents, Candy Kush has made a name for itself, including being named Colorado’s Best Medical Marijuana in 2010. It also won Aspen, Colorado’s Western Slope Cannabis Crown, the first time the award was given, and third place at the 2012 Spannabis Cannabis Championship Cup in the category of Outdoor Strains.
Plant Size – Regular
As a regular-sized plant, Candy Kush strain reviews let growers know that the plant can reach 1.5 meters tall. This is smaller than many strains, but it is still enough to require indoor growers to prepare themselves and their space carefully.
Candy Kush is recognized for its bag appeal or intriguing appearance, as it features varied colors in vivid shades along with a thick resin coating. The range of colors, including brown, purple, green, and orange, combine to make the strain look almost like rock candy, helping it earn its name. In addition to their gorgeous colors, the buds are sticky and taste as good as they look.
Difficulty – Moderate
Growing Candy Kush seeds is moderate to easy. The plants tend to be resilient and do not require growers to be at their beck and call. They are also mold-resistant, making it even easier for beginners to handle them. Growers will start to notice the plant producing trichomes in heavy quantities at around five weeks along. This production continues until the plant is harvested.
Growers with more experience can consider taking advantage of their knowledge to use the Screen of Green method or opt for low-stress training to help boost the yield. The fact that these methods help the yield is one of the factors that make Candy Kush so appealing for moderately-experienced growers.
Flowering Time – 9 Weeks
Flowering takes about 9-10 weeks on average. When grown outdoors, harvest it in mid-October at the latest. As soon as the Kandy Kush starts flowering, growers will begin to notice its delicious scent. About halfway through the flowering stage, Candy Kush seeds experience a dramatic increase in bud density as well as resin production.
Yield – Indoor & Outdoor
Those growing their Candy Kush seeds indoors should remember to choose a tall space as the plant can reach 1.5 meters. It is also wise to consider using the Screen of Green setup, which will maximize the yield inside.
Growers who opt to cultivate their cannabis outside in the Northern Hemisphere should harvest the plant around the middle of October or earlier to maximize the harvest.
The ideal conditions for growing Candy Kush seeds are a cool climate.
- Indoor: 450 to 550 Grams per Square Meter
- Outdoor: 450 to 550 Grams per Plant
DNA Genetics was the first to breed and grow Candy Kush. It created the strain by crossing Trainwreck and OG Kush. The original strain has the indica-dominance that is common, but there are also some variations with more sativa influence. There are also newer flavors and variations, including those that taste like caramel, rock, or cotton candy.
- User Recommendation Info: Beginners who use Candy Kush should keep in mind that the high is not instant. It is common for inexperienced users to take a second or third hit without realizing the first hit’s effects are still to come, then getting overwhelmed and developing couchlock. With that in mind, beginners will appreciate this strain, from growing to consuming it.
- Time Recommended Info: Evening – It is best to use Candy Kush at night, as it helps the user relax after a long day and release their stress. The body heavy high with its sedative effects helps users fall asleep at night. Some users prefer to use Kandy Kush during the daytime as a way to fuel their appetite or reduce pain and inflammation.
