“Stop Camping…GOVERNMENT!” Yes, for the past nearly 80 years the government has bogarted the sticky icky and keeping it all to themselves. Of course, they have plenty of ‘reasons’ they use to justify this outright atrocity. But it’s definitely time that they “Puff Puff Pass” marijuana laws and legalize it all over the nation…nay…the world!
Throughout this article I’ll be explaining why it’s time we “puff puff pass” marijuana laws and why it would provide benefit to society as a whole as result.
No, legalizing weed won’t suddenly create a utopic society where people will stop being dicks and stealing and mugging and so forth. That will not happen.
By legalizing cannabis, you allow law enforcement to focus on real crime as opposed to tracking down non-violent cannabis users and taking up valuable time of the justice department. Imagine if instead of arresting, prosecuting and incarcerating the hundreds of thousands of cannabis cases each year, and focused it on…I don’t know…human trafficking…what impact you would have on it.
You won’t erase crime from the fabric of society, but you’ll give cops the opportunity to focus on real crime which would ultimately make society safer. This is just one reason why we should puff puff pass marijuana laws sooner than later.
The War on Drugs costs us a bundle. Last year it was somewhere in the $40+ billion marker and each year the costs are similar. This does not include the costs of incarcerating and maintaining pot prisoners. With a rough estimate of $40k per year to house an inmate, we are spending millions each year on “convicts” that pose absolutely no threat to society.
When you legalize marijuana, you remove the incentive to spend on prosecuting cannabis users, meaning you clear up time for cops to work on real crime, as was mentioned above.
More importantly, simultaneously decreasing costs of waging the drug war, you’re also increasing revenue from the legal cannabis market. Currently, the cannabis industry generates roughly $7 billion per year and is poised to grow exponentially over the next few years as more states and countries decide to embrace the legal industry.
It’s simple math. So please politicians, for this reason, “Puff puff pass those laws!”
It’s safer for the Kiddies!
One of the main reasons why we haven’t legalized marijuana yet is due to the fact that politicians and anti-cannabis activists use kids as the reason for keeping it illegal.
“Won’t anyone thing about the children?!?” they exclaim with a zealous seal. The problem with this statement is that keeping drugs illegal makes it more accessible to kids. It’s harder for teens to buy vodka than it is for them to buy Molly. This is because drug dealers don’t card, they are only in it for the money. They don’t care if they cut their drugs with impure chemicals because their only incentive is increasing their profit margins.
Under a regulated system, you remove these elements because dispensaries will card, quality will be ensured and kids will have less access to cannabis.
Jobs folks, Jobs!
Another reason to puff puff pass marijuana laws is due the immense potential for job creation. The legal cannabis industry has already shown us that there are plenty of money to be made and plenty of positions that need to be filled.
From growing to distribution, there will always be a need for people doing the jobs. Thus, in a time where job hunts can be scarce, the cannabis industry could be the boom people are looking for to stimulate the economy.
Growing, distribution and retail of cannabis is just one aspect. When it comes to making medicines, cultural events, paraphernalia, legal aspects of the industry, marketing and advertising and much more…cannabis can produce a world of new jobs seemingly overnight.
So the next time a politician is talking about job creation, remind them to puff puff pass those marijuana laws.
It’s Freedom baby!
Finally, the ultimate reason why we should puff puff pass marijuana laws is due to the fact that a free society should never prohibit what a person can and cannot consume. You have a right as an individual to consume whatever you want, especially if you consider yourself to be the ultimate authority on your body.
Current marijuana laws work under the basis that you as an individual do not have the right to consume a non-sanctioned substance. In other words, you belong to the state and you have a barcode to prove it (Social Security Number).
Freedom of consciousness, freedom of choice, these are the main reasons why cannabis should be legal. The government should have no more right to tell you what you can put in your mouth than what comes out.
Under a free society, prohibition is an act of tyranny. This is the principle reason why we should always “puff puff pass” pro marijuana laws, because liberty is a right. In fact, even the US Bill of Rights specifies that you have a right to “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness” and cannabis complies with all three these points.
